The Classic A log store is made for us using timber grown in the area but does not necessarily come from a source that has been certified as sustainable. A Classic A can be made and supplied by ourselves using timber from our own wood that has been certified as susatinable by the Forest Stewardshp Council. Such an FSC Classic A is the same price but is available only on the same lead time as Custom log stores. To place and order, please go to the "Orders and Enquiry" page. This is a medium-sized log store that is supplied as a self-assembly kit, complete with fixings and step-by-step pictorial instructions. The store is designed to stack two rows of 25cm (10”) logs. This log length seems to suit a wide variety of fire grates and log-burning stoves. The stacking space is 142cm wide, 83cm high and 52cm deep providing a stack volume of 0.66 cubic metres. One customer has found that this equates to about half a Ford Transit truck load. Another way to look at it is that 0.66 cubic metres is about the quantity of randomly stacked logs that will fit into a builder's dump bag. The dimensions of the log store are:
The frame and panelling of the unit is made of 2.5cm (1”) boards of Larch or Douglas fir while the roof is made of Noble fir (better known as one of the species of Christmas tree that doesn’t drop its leaves) or Spruce. These substantial boards give the log store good strength to support heavy logs. The pack, when it arrives, is quite substantial. It is 176cm long, 84cm wide and 40cm deep and weighs around 75Kg. You may need to unpack it if it is to be moved very far. The timber is not treated because we consider it is unnecessary as preservatives themselves create environmental hazards; disposal of treated timber has to be through landfill. Timber is liable to degrade if it stays damp. Typically problems occur when timber is in ground contact or built into damp walls. Your log store has been designed to shed water when it rains and to dry out after the shower has passed. Log stores should always be sited in well-ventilated areas so that the logs themselves can dry out if they start wet or stay dry if they arrive seasoned. You are free, however, to apply preservative or stain if you wish. |
